A Detailed Review of the Smoke Vault 18″ Black by Camp Chef

Design and Durability (4.5/5.0)

Camp Chef did a great job of making a sturdy smoker that’s made of quality materials. It seems solid enough to last several years. It’s made of steel that is in no danger of rusting. It is also spacious, thus you can smoke a lot of food at the same time. The trays inside the smoker are easy to remove and assemble, so it’s really convenient to clean them up. I’ve noticed that the door-installed thermometer may sometimes give you an inaccurate reading, so I recommend purchasing separately a dual-probe smoker thermostat. Since it’s not insulated, temperature control may be challenging most especially during the cold weather. Lastly, this smoker does not come along with a propane tank. That means you’d still need to purchase it separately if you don’t have one yet.

Ease of Use (4.5/5.0)

The smoker is quite easy to assemble. If you’re new to this, just make sure to follow the instruction manual. Assembly time may take about 45 minutes or lesser if you have a third hand to help you. Usage of this smoker is pretty straightforward. What you’d really need to familiarize or deal with much often is the temperature control of this unit. If you’re familiar with the right usage of wood chips, then you should be able to much easily control the amount of smoke or flame that this smoker produces.

Efficiency (4.5/5.0)

This Smoke Vault does a great job of smoking a variety of food as it really produces a tasty, smoked flavor.  If you’re new to smokers, you can experiment on different wood chips or simply refer to a recipe book of smoked food. A major issue that you’d need to deal with when using this unit is its temperature control. It’s not insulated, so you got to deal efficiently with some external factors like the cold weather.

Price (4.5/5.0)

The Smoke Vault is now reasonably priced at $199.99, which is down $50 from its original price. Still, it would have been better if it came along with a propane task so it can be right away used.

I'm Robert and as a resident of Dallas, Texas I know the importance of smoking meat. Growing up in the Lone Star State I have been around smokers my entire life. I have made it my life's mission to show my neighbors that electric smokers will give them that signature smoky flavor without all of the work. I enjoy going to the cook offs that are held during the year, and trying out new recipes at my family BBQs. During the football season, you can normally find me cooking out during the Cowboys tailgating parties.
